Pervers/Cité is a collaboratively organized radical queer, trans & non-binary summer festival. In a climate where the gay corporate agenda and the homogenized asepticization of queer/trans culture(s) prevail, Pervers/Cité strives to provide activities intended to revive the radical foundations of the 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride movement.
Our hope is to collaborate with people or organizations who want to hold events under our umbrella. This is a model of voluntary association in which independently organized events come together in the hopes of sharing resources such as promo, equipment, expertise, etc. We are looking for artists, organizers, teachers, mentors, activists, and other creatives to bring your ideas to life with us!
We are explicitly prioritizing Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in our selection this year. It is important to us that Pervers/Cité is a festival that not only stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter, Land Back/Idle No More, and Status for All movements, but also recognize that these movements intersect and overlap with Queer, Trans & Non-Binary struggles. For this reason, we will be centering BIPOC voices and events, and providing as much support as possible.
The Pervers/Cité Collective will provide marketing support for events through our social networks, our media connections, and a newly revamped website. Pervers/Cité has been building a network of connections for 10 years which can help less established organizers gain a larger platform. We can also provide some technical support for online events – including access to software like Zoom. Our people are working hard to fundraise in order to provide stipends for safety supplies for in-person events and to create a special BIPOC Honorarium Fund. The goal of this fund is to offer, for the first time, honorariums to BIPOC organizers in order to give these events additional support and address systemic disparities.
Anyone organizing an event that is part of Pervers/Cité has the freedom to charge a cover, ask for voluntary contributions or fundraise independently for their events. Pervers/Cité will not ask for a share of any funds raised. But note that a core principle of Pervers/Cité is that all events commit to a policy of "no one will be turned away for lack of funds".
